Stop and smell the flowers along the quilt garden trail in Amish Country

It's Fun. It's Free. It's Fantastic. There's nothing else like it in the entire country! In Elkhart County, they honor quilts, a pinnacle of Amish artistry, with 19 gardens planted in intricate quilt patterns. More than a million blooming annuals offer an ever-changing display throughout the growing season. Each quilt garden has its own splendid pattern – many are original designs – and each has its own unique story.

Like the handmade masterpieces that the Amish create, the nationally recognized gardens express the best of this region’s rural heritage – pretty as a song and crafted with patience, teamwork and loving skill from designs often handed down through generations and sometimes originating on distant shores. The gardens, together with 21 huge hand-painted murals, grace seven welcoming communities in a colorful display that can be enjoyed absolutely free from Memorial Day through October 1.
